TELEMEDICINE – A NEW DIGITAL CONCEPT TO BE TEST-LAUNCHED
Online medical consultations will soon be available in the Republic of Moldova, due to the "Digital Inclusion for Social and e-Health Services" pilot project which was launched on 6 September 2022. A Partnership Agreement between the United Nations Population Fund of Moldova (UNFPA), the Future Technologies Activity (funded by USAID and Sweden) and Moldcell Company was signed at the launching event.
The pilot project focuses on innovations in digital health services in the Republic of Moldova and will provide the option to access online primary health consultation and counselling services by means of mobile phones donated to 630 elderly people participating in the project "Digital Skills Connect Generations", which promotes active ageing and digital inclusion of the elderly through intergenerational dialogue, a project supported by the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection.
The e-Governance Agency supports this initiative as a partner of the HelpAge International Moldova project and of the new project which aims at testing the efficiency of online medical consultation services provided through a mobile application.
Olga Tumuruc, EGA Director: “The E-Governance Agency got involved in the “Digital Skills Connect Generations” project since its launch, unconditionally. We want to contribute to facilitating access of the population to public services through technology and digitalization. The "Digital Inclusion for Social and Telemedicine Services" pilot project is a new step in this direction and we must approach it with great responsibility, given the beneficiaries of this project and the fact that it relates to people's life and health ".
The higher supply and demand for e-health and telemedicine services was initially determined by the COVID-19 pandemic and continued subsequently, being seen as an opportunity to modernize the health sector, which Moldova will capitalize in the coming years.
