OLGA TUMURUC: “LIBRARIES ARE TRUE TEMPLES OF EDUCATION THAT PLAY A KEY ROLE IN DIGITAL CULTURE DEVELOPMENT”

2023-10-10 10:10

The two-day international conference "Social Resilience and Strong Professional Networks as Preconditions for Peace", organized by the National Library of the Republic of Moldova (NLRM) in partnership with the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Moldova and the Conference of European National Librarians on October 9 and 10, 2023 in Chisinau, brought together participants from different countries, including Romania, Latvia, Lithuania and Ukraine.

EGA Director, Olga Tumuruc, who was present at the event, noted that librarians play a key role in building a modern information society. "Libraries, as community development centers, are among the most active partners of the e-Governance Agency in promoting digital transformation.  Our joint digital literacy and education activities help libraries to modernize, keep pace with the technological progress and continue to be true temples of education that play a key role in the development of digital culture in our country", she added.

One of EGA’s major goals is to promote a new model of state-citizen relations driven by innovation and efficiency. To achieve this goal, cooperation with the local authorities, institutions and community-based organizations that are close to the people and can drive change is crucial. To this end, the e-Governance Agency has established a lasting partnership with the Association of Librarians, the National Library and the whole community of librarians in the Republic of Moldova.

Libraries also play an important role in organizing public awareness campaigns. A good example is the "Digital Nation" campaign, where EGA partnered with the Association of Librarians of the Republic of Moldova. Thus, more than 100 librarians from all over the country have been trained to become "digital messengers" and equipped with relevant knowledge and skills to support the population in using electronic services. The mission of the digital messengers is to popularize digital services among citizens with low digital literacy and to help them use technology in their interactions with the government.

The electronic services are very useful for the refugees from Ukraine and helps them adapt and integrate more easily in our country. This reconfirms the topicality of the issue addressed during the above mentioned conference, namely that social resilience and strong professional networks are preconditions for peace.
