EGA REPRESENTED AT “EMPOWERING WOMEN IN A DIGITAL WORLD”
The challenges and opportunities of digitalization for the Moldovan businesswomen were in the spotlight of the public event “Empowering Women in a Digital World” organized by UN Women Moldova on the occasion of the International Women’s Day. During the event, EGA was represented by Olga Tumuruc, the director of e-Government Agency.
“Digital entrepreneurship is a modern activity, which allows every entrepreneur, man or woman, to make use of technology and innovation for their own benefit, but also for the benefit of their communities and the society”, she said while taking part in the discussion panel dedicated to digital entrepreneurship.
Empowering women in a digital world and ensuring gender equality are not easy processes and require effort and commitment. In this context, Olga Tumuruc noted that specific skills are necessary to develop a successful online business using new technology, including
- digital skills
- ability to keep pace with technological developments
- communication and experience sharing
- openness to innovation and change.
“E-Government Agency will continue to build partnerships and implement initiatives aimed at mobilizing the potential of the female digital entrepreneurship and at making women more present in the IT sector. We will design and implement outreach and digital literacy programs intended for women and digital solutions to streamline the administrative components of businesses, so that companies have time for strategic development activities”, Mrs. Tumuruc added.
The event “Empowering Women in a Digital World” was organized by UN Women Moldova to improve the public awareness of the digital gender gap, spotlight the role of women in IT development, strengthen cross-sector cooperation and encourage Moldovan women and girls as well as Ukrainian women refugees to pursue an IT career. The participants also had the opportunity to meet people sharing similar views who could potentially become their partners in their professional activities.
The theme of the International Women’s Day in 2023 is “DigitALL: Innovation and Technology for Gender Equality”. This theme is aligned with the priority theme for the 67th session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW-67) “Innovation and technological change, and education in the digital age for achieving gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls”. On this occasion, the United Nations recognizes and celebrates the women and girls who are championing the advancement of transformative technology and digital education.
